Televangelist Benny Hinn Issues Apology for False Prophecies and Endorsing Prosperity Gospel
Renowned Israeli televangelist Benny Hinn has made headlines once again, this time for issuing a public apology for delivering prophecies that he admits “were not from the Lord.”
In an interview with The Strang Report, the 71-year-old reflected on his ministry regrets, citing two major ones: endorsing the prosperity gospel and spreading untrue prophecies.
Hinn’s criticism of the prosperity gospel is not new. In 2019, he publicly denounced it, declaring that he was “done with it” after witnessing the harm it caused.
He emphasized his stance against soliciting large sums of money from followers, stating, “I think it’s an offense to the Lord; it’s an offense to say give $1,000.” However, despite his previous statements, Hinn acknowledged that he succumbed to pressure and made mistakes.
During the interview, Hinn admitted to instances where he believed he had received divine revelation but later realized they were inaccurate. He cited 1 Corinthians 13, which acknowledges that prophetic insight is partial, as justification for his errors.
“Sadly, there were some prophecies I gave that were not accurate or from the Lord,” Hinn confessed.
While seeking forgiveness from his audience, Hinn acknowledged his humanity and the likelihood of future mistakes. Despite his past controversies, he emphasized his commitment to biblical principles and vowed to conduct fundraising for his ministry in a balanced and transparent manner.
Hinn’s lavish lifestyle and the financial dealings of his ministry have long been scrutinized. In 2007, his ministry underwent investigation by the US Senate Committee on Finance to determine whether he had personally benefited from donations made to his church work.
The apology and self-reflection by Benny Hinn mark a significant moment in his career and have reignited discussions about accountability and transparency within the televangelism community.
As he strives to reconcile his past actions with his current commitment to biblical principles, the spotlight remains on whether his words will translate into meaningful change.
