CAF Approves Namboole Stadium for Uganda’s Upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially authorized the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to host international fixtures at the newly upgraded Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
In the letter received by FUFA CEO Edgar Watson on May 12, 2024, CAF expressed satisfaction with the recent upgrades completed at the venue.
“Reference to participation of your team in the FIFA World Cup United 2026 African Qualifiers matchday 3&4, following reinspection of the Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) conducted by CAF inspectors, we acknowledge the improvements undertaken in various facilities in accordance with previous remarks from CAF,” reads part of the letter.
“We commend the stadium management and your Association for your concerted efforts.”
The approval comes ahead of Uganda’s crucial matches against Botswana and Algeria on June 7 and June 10, respectively, as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification process. The endorsement follows a detailed inspection by CAF officials who praised the significant improvements made to the stadium’s facilities.
The Uganda Cranes, who triumphed in their last outing at Namboole with a 2-0 victory over Malawi in November 2019, will return to the same grounds hoping to recreate past successes in their pursuit of a spot in the upcoming World Cup.
