The community is grappling with the untimely deaths of the school-going children, which has left many in shock and sorrow.
According to preliminary investigations, the three sisters were washing clothes at the dam when the tragedy occurred. During the incident, a boy who was present at the scene did not enter the dam and was found safe when locals arrived to recover the bodies. Katumbi noted the community’s uncertainty about whether the children had been sent to the dam by their parents or had gone on their own.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite their best efforts, the sisters could not be saved. The recovery of their bodies has led to an outpouring of grief and a communal call for enhanced safety measures around local water sources.
