In a disturbing incident aboard a Nile Star bus, police in Pakwach district have arrested Ivan Mungungeyo on allegations of sexually assaulting a female passenger. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the victim, Judith Jurua Tracy, 21, at Pakwach police station.
Mungungeyo, a resident of Wampewo Kasawe Zone, Kasangati town council, Wakiso district, was detained on Sunday. According to Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region police spokesperson, the incident occurred on Saturday night in Kichobonyobo village, Masindi district, during a bus journey from Kampala to Arua (registration number UBF 691T).
Preliminary reports detail that the victim was initially seated in seat number 21 next to another female passenger. When the bus reached Luwero, the other female passenger disembarked, and Mungungeyo took the vacant seat.
Angucia stated that while the bus was en route, Mungungeyo allegedly began touching the victim’s thigh and eventually exposed himself, rubbing his genitals on her sweater. The victim raised an alarm, prompting a response from the bus conductor.
The conductor, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident but noted that Mungungeyo denied the allegations, claiming he had simply forgotten to zip up his trousers.
“When we questioned him, he denied the allegation and instead said that he forgot to zip his trousers and that’s why his genitals were exposed,” the conductor explained.
This incident highlights the pressing need for increased vigilance and protective measures on public transportation to ensure the safety and security of all passenger from such violations.
